19th Century Religious Books
Item Details
A pair of 19th century religious books. This pair includes a Holy Bible bound in engraved black leather with gilt ornamentation and page ends, and brass tone latches to its sides. This bible was translated from The Latin Vulgate and compared with other translations with annotations by Reverend Dr. Challoner, published by D. & J Sadlier Co. of New York circa 1885. Also included is Lives of Eminent Saints compiled from monuments and records by Reverend Alban Butler with a preface by Christopher Hughes. This religious text is presented in a pictorial cloth on board cover and was published by Murphy & McCarthy of Boston in 1880.
