English Brass Rubbings on Wood Panels of 16th Century Figures

A set of two English brass rubbings from historic tomb brasses. Featured is a rubbing of John Rede, custodian of Oxford’s New College from 1520-1521. It is rendered in a palette of grey against black and mounted to a wooden panel. Also featured is a similar rubbing of a monk figure, rendered in golden brown and mounted to a dark brown wooden panel. Each piece includes a sawtooth hanger to the verso.

- wear, flaking and creasing present to both rubbings; surface wear and chipping to panels.
