Hand-Knotted Turkish Area Kilim

Item Details

A hand-knotted Turkish kilim. This wool area rug is rendered in a medium-high-contrast palette of rose, black, lime, ivory, and gray. It begins with a vertical row of four stepped diamond medallions. The medallions enclose smaller stepped diamonds, which become Ashik Ersari guls and then dogdan guls. Flanking the central medallions are partial medallions and guls. The field is framed by compound, crenellated lateral borders; it does not have borders at top and bottom. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at either end with ivory wool warp fringe. It is labeled on the reverse.
