Restrike of Käthe Kollwitz Self Portrait

A restrike soft ground etching on paper of a self portrait from the original plate etched by German artist Käthe Kollwitz (1867 – 1945). Facing the viewer with a stoic expression, Kollwitz depicts her portrait with masterfully modulated tones and textures. This restrike was published by von der Becke c. 1944-46 and 1963-65, and bears his 3-line ‘Berlin-Halinsee’ dry-stamp beneath the image to the lower right. The work is presented under an off-white mat and glass, in a gold tone wood frame with hanging wire affixed to the verso.

- toning to print and mat; wear to frame finish.
