An engraving on paper of marines raising the flag by listed artist Gabriel Swart (1895 – 1984). This print is inspired by Joe Rosenthal’s composition, Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima, where a group of soldiers work alongside one another to hoist the American Flag into solid land. The scene is rendered with layered cross-hatched line work throughout. To the lower right corner of the composition is a handwritten artist signature. This print, which features an embossed border, is contained in a black wooden frame. To the verso is affixed hanging wire, in addition to various print-outs of the artist’s Ask Art page.

Condition

- slight toning to print; wear and staining to verso; tape affixed to verso peeling.
