An original oil painting on canvas by listed artist Allan Barr (British, 1890-1959), Portrait of Mary Lee Logan. The half-length portrait depicts a seated young woman with dark, bobbed hair wearing a sleeveless green silk dress trimmed with apricot ruffles. The painting is signed to the lower left, ‘Allan Barr ’27’. It is presented in an elegant gilded wood frame with shallow carved details to the four corners.
Allan Barr was a distinguished British portrait painter who studied under Frank Brangwyn, John M. Swan and George W. Lambert at the London School of Art. He served in the first World War, and painted portraits of some of the lieutenants. His work is in many private and museum collections around the world including the Victoria and Albert Museum, the National Gallery, and the Royal Academy, among others.
