Hand-Knotted Persian Tribal Area Rug
Item Details
A hand-knotted Persian tribal area rug. Attributed to Jaff weavers, this wool rug is rendered in a purposefully abrashed palette of midnight blue, azure, and madder red. It begins with an artfully irregular blue lozenge. The abrashed, Persian gabbeh-style lozenge is populated with three stylized, four legged animals in red. The lozenge rests on a red field, which is populated with white goose guls in a variety of contrasting colors. Framing the field are two borders over an abrashed red ground, the pattern of the borders shifting in palette and form as it moves from region to region. Selvedges are overcast in red and blue, the rug finishing at either end with twisted, undyed warp fringe. Unlabeled.
