An original well executed gouache on paper painting signed Mayerhofer to the bottom left hand corner. This beautiful miniature painting features two pairs of Victorian women standing on rocky outcrops on the edge of a vast lake. In the foreground there are castle ruins, and in the distance, a smoking volcano. The style of painting is highly graphic and is nicely framed with a dark green velvet mat, in an ornamental silver gilt frame with a rustic finish.

Minor wear to frame.
