Chinese Embroidery After "Along the River During the Qingming Festival"

A Chinese embroidery after a detail from the famous Song dynasty (960-1279) handscroll Along the River During the Qingming Festival (清明上河圖) by Zhang Zeduan (張擇端, 1085-1145), now held in the Palace Museum, Beijing. This textile reproduces a portion of the handscroll with a procession making their way across a semi-circular bridge. The title and an inscription are also reproduced. These embroidered sections are bordered by a gold-tone silk brocade and backed with a white stabilizing fabric. The textile is bordered with a brown paper trim.
