Peter Max Original 2006 Signed Mixed Media "Tip Top Floating on Blends"

Item Details

An original 2006 mixed media with color lithography and acrylic painting on paper by well-listed and renowned German-American Pop artist Peter Max (born 1937). This work is part of two-piece suite released by Max that revisits his earlier psychedelic works of the 1960s. The image depicts a winged human figure wearing a flamboyantly colored jacket and floral legs, looking into the smiling face of a yellow balloon. Artist signature is signed in paint to the lower right. This work is mounted behind layers of black linen lining, under acrylic glass in a matte black composite frame, equipped to hang. A certificate of authenticity from Park West Gallery is included inside of a paper envelope attached to the verso, as well as additional paperwork for this piece.
Max received his formal art education in the 1950s at the Art Students League of New York in Manhattan, where he studied anatomy, figure drawing and composition under the tutelage of Frank J. Reilly. Max began his career in illustration and graphic arts by creating collage-based works using elements taken from antique photographs. His interest in astronomy led to his self-described “Cosmic ’60s” period, where his art became a symbol of the counterculture with its flamboyant use of bright rainbow colors and psychedelic images.
