A mixed media sculpture titled Delictum Gravisius 3 by Frank Kowing (1944-2016), created in December of 2010. The work is a part of the HMS series. Alternate title is Delictum Gravisius (Trust Me). The work is a collage of several different pieces including a framed graphite drawing and found materials such as a hatchet, silk umbrella, and wood. While the item is not signed, it comes directly from the artist’s estate. Please note that this item does not come with a certificate of authentication or provenance. A gallery description is attached to the verso. There is also a tag attached to the piece with title and date. Presented with wire for mounting.
Frank Kowing is an outsider artist based in Maryland with a larger than life reputation, the bulk of his focus being mixed media works, many grand in scale and with three dimensional quality. He has participated in a vast array of group shows and exhibits since his first shows in the 1970s in New York City. His education, after service in Vietnam with the US Army, was extensive and included the Gerrit Rietveld Academy, Amsterdam, Netherlands and several fine art institutions in Pennsylvania.
