A mixed media sculpture titled Even The Sane Have Two Faces by Frank Kowing (1944-2016), created in 2007. This work depicts a figure in a brightly painted vest. Rope, phone cord, and sticks create the composition surrounding it. While not signed by the artist, the piece comes from the artist’s estate. Please note that the work is not accompanied by a certificate of authenticity or provenance. A graphite inscription reads ‘Vested II’ along with an informative label are to the verso.

Frank Kowing is an outsider artist based in Maryland with a larger than life reputation, the bulk of his focus being mixed media works, many grand in scale and with three dimensional quality. He has participated in a vast array of group shows and exhibits since his first shows in the 1970s in New York City. His education, after service in Vietnam with the US Army, was extensive and included the Gerrit Rietveld Academy, Amsterdam, Netherlands and several fine art institutions in Pennsylvania.
