A large hand-knotted Kashmar wool area rug. The central medallion with pendants is surrounded by deep blue infilled with pomegranates, flowers, and arabesques. The field is scarlet and is densely populated by stylized flowers, vining foliage, and palmettes in a palette of deep blue, bright blue, gold, tan, pink, rose, gray, taupe, and green. The spandrels are deep blue with similar designs in the same shades with tan predominant in the corners, The inner and outer guard borders are bright blue with repeating floral designs while the primary border reiterates the herati patterns and colors found in the central lozenge and in the spandrels. It has overcast edges with protective strips to the underside with thick cotton warp fringe. Tagged to reverse.
