Pieter Van Veen Aquatint Etching on Paper Harbor Scene

An aquatint etching on paper of a harbor scene by well-listed artist Pieter Van Veen (1875-1961). This gray-scale work features some boats along a dock with some town architecture visible in the background. The artist’s in-plate signature and date are present to the lower left. The work is presented under white matting and wrapped in acetate.

Born in Holland, Van Veen studied in Holland and France. He moved to New York in 1915 and became known for his landscapes painted en plein air. His work has been collected by the Queen of Belgium, the H.C. Henry Collection, and the Butler Art Institute, among other institutions.
