An ink illustration on heavy paper titled Hellions on High Heels by well-listed American artist Lorence F. Bjorklund (1911-1978). The work illustrates three Western scenes for the ‘Wild West Weekly’. Depicted are two cowboys on their running horses, a shooting encounter on a table, and a man standing next to a bed. Each illustration includes a caption of the scene, page number, and the initials of the artist ‘LFG’. A stamp reading ‘L. F. Bjorklund Croton Fallen N. Y’ is adhered to the verso. The item remains unframed.
Born in Minnesota, Bjorklund was known for his Western genre scenes. Bjorklund earned his first education in art as an apprentice to a mural painter and drawing lessons from his father. In 1927, he received a scholarship to study art at the Pratt Institute. During this time, he illustrated Western genre pulp publications. Throughout his career, his illustrations were published in over 300 books, including some that Bjorklund authored. He is listed in the 1975 book Fifty Great Western Illustrators by Jeff Dykes.
