Robert Lahmann Watercolor and Gouache Portraits After Moreau

A collection of watercolor and gouache portraits on paper by Lahmann (1922-2014). There are a total of fifteen works, many of which have a spiritual theme and depict angels, Christ, dark spirits and mythological figures. Other portraits depict: women at the beach (signed ‘R.L.’) and a woman raking leaves (signed ‘Lahmann ’91’). Another painting depicts two figures hunting in a snow-covered meadow. The blue portrait by Lahmann after 19th Century French artist Gustave Moreau is titled to the lower right ‘Jupiter and Semele’. The black and white portrait of St. Cecilia by Lahmann after Moreau that depicts two profiled faces against a background of black bars is signed to the lower left ‘St. Cecilia Lahmann Moreau’. Another painting depicts Hercules and the Lernaean Hydra. Robert Lahmann was a mid 20th to early 21st Century Wisconsin artist known for his watercolor, gouache and acrylic paintings and drawings, largely landscapes and portraits.

- edges of some pieces are a little worn; no mats or frames.
