A signed aquatone print on paper of an abstract figural composition by listed Cincinnati-based artist William Hentschel (American, 1892-1962). This work features a female figure wearing a cornucopia of fruit on her head, surrounded by a vertical arrangement of stylized orange leaves. The work is signed by hand ‘W.E. Hentschel’ in graphite to the lower right. It is presented under off-white matting and wrapped in acetate.

William Ernst Hentschel was a Rookwood Pottery designer and printmaker who developed two innovative stencil printmaking techniques. Developed in 1928, this printmaking technique, which he termed ‘aquatone’, uses an airbrush with multiple stencils. Hentschel was an renowned artist at Rookwood Pottery, considered the best of the Art Deco designers, known for his matte Moderne vases and Ombroso glazed pieces.
