Paul Chidlaw Original Mixed Media Drawing on Paper
Item Details
An original mixed media drawing with graphite and oil pastel on paper by well-listed American Abstract Expressionist, Paul Chidlaw (1900 – 1989). The image depicts a study of color and form through a whimsical landscape of bands of pigment over which intutive marks are layered, creating a composition imbued with light, texture and movement. Artist signature is signed and dated in pencil to the lower left. This work is unframed, mounted under white mat and housed in an acetate sleeve.
Chidlaw was born in Cleves, Ohio and studied at both the Cincinnati Art Academy and L’Ecole des Beaux Arts in Fontainebleau, France. He returned to Cincinnati where he then taught at the Art Academy mentoring many students. He was considered a pioneer of the Abstract movement, at the time, and he remains one of Cincinnati’s best-loved native artists. His artwork is displayed in the Cincinnati Art Museum and Xavier University.
