A watercolor painting on paper titled Dusk by listed American artist Merton Willmore (1893-1974). Portrayed with large gestural brushstrokes, this expressionistic work features a road winding through a hilly landscape populated with simplified trees and foliage. The painting is signed to the lower left. It is presented under white matting and wrapped in acetate. A descriptive label is present to the verso.
Merton Willmore was known for his landscape paintings rendered in both oil and watercolor. He studied under Frank Meyers and was influenced by Reginald Grooms and Walter Closson. He was a member of several art associations including the American Watercolor Society of New York, the Salmangundi Club, the Cincinnati Art Club, and the Professional Artists of Cincinnati.
