A watercolor painting on paper titled Walton’s Bridge over Thames River by well-listed British artist George Sidney Shepherd (1784-1862), created in 1816. The watercolor illustrates in fine and exacting detail the Walton’s Bridge located in Surrey, England. Multiple figures fish along the waters of the Thames River while a horse carriage crosses the bridge. Signed by the artist near to the lower left. An informational gallery label is affixed to the verso. The painting it is presented with an off-white mat, housed under glass in a gilt wood frame.

George Sidney Shepherd is known for his topographical watercolor paintings of the English countryside. Shepherd received his early art education at the Dr. Cox Macro’s Sketching Academy and later was a founding member of the New Society of Painters in Watercolors which was initially formed due to the Royal Academies refusal to recognize watercolor as an important contribution to art.
