George Biddle Signed Limited Edition Lithograph "Michael John"

A signed limited edition lithograph on paper titled Michael John by listed American artist George Biddle (1885-1973). This gray-scale work features a frontal bust portrait of a young boy looking out at the viewer with a slight grin on his face. The print is signed by hand in graphite to the lower right. The artist’s in-plate signature and date are also present to the lower left. A descriptive label with a short bio of the artist is present to the verso. The print is mounted on white foam board and wrapped in acetate.

George Biddle was born in Pennsylvania and attended Harvard University where he received his B.A. and doctorate in law. For additional art instruction, he attended the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, and the Académie Julian in both Paris and Munich. Biddle is mostly known for his murals painted during the Depression era. He proposed his ideas of government-sponsored art programs to President Franklin D. Roosevelt, which eventually led to the implementation of the Federal Arts Program. Biddle’s work has been collected and displayed by various renowned art institutions including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Whitney Museum of American Art, among others.
