Antique W. M. Gale & Son Sterling Silver Pitcher, Circa 1853-1855
Item Details
An antique sterling silver pitcher. This piece was produced between 1853-1855 by the New York firm of W. M. Gale & Son. The jug with a swirled body is elaborately decorated with stippling, chased and repousse molding. The handle is molded with grapes and leaves in relief and a cartouche with the engraved inscription ‘Bell Jones from F. N. B. Dec. 11th, 1855’ can be found in the center. There is a clover leaf and flower border above a gadrooned edge. The jug bears impressed factory marks reading ‘W. M. Gale & Son New York’ together with a diamond, circle, and oval logo. The approximate weight is 31.925 ozt.
