An oil painting on paper titled Straight Edges by listed American artist Edgar Hatten (1929-1990), created in 1978. This work features an abstract arrangement of polygonal shapes filled with cool, muted colors and textured with pigments dotted across the surface. Signed to the verso of the painted paper and inscribed to the mat verso in graphite, “Edgar Hatten signed verso, Straight Edges, 1978.” Presented under a white mat and wrapped in acetate.
Edgar Hatten is known for his portrayals of abstract still-lifes and landscapes with a focus on expressing mood. He was born in Wyoming and lived most of his life in Los Angeles. He taught at Swinbourne College in Australia, East Los Angeles College, and Citrus College.
