Horsehair Raku Pottery Jar

Item Details

A unique piece of horsehair raku pottery. This off-white vase features a globed shaped base and more narrow round neck. The exterior of the jar has fine black lines throughout, created by using horsehair from the tail or mane of a horse during the firing process. The piece is illegibly signed to its underside in black permanent marker and is marked ‘35’ in graphite. Includes an informational leaflet about horsehair pottery.

Condition

- chip in the inner rim. Note that raku-fired pottery is not suitable for use with liquid foods.
