A semi-antique hand-knotted Persian Sarouk wool area rug. This elaborate wool pile rug features a symmetric floral design with racemes of flowers and sickle leaves with irregular islimi patterning all rendered is a palette of deep cobalt and indigo, bright blue, black, taupe, ruby, pinks and pale blue on a glossy scarlet field. The guard borders have alternating fields in cadet blue and taupe with floral and foliate elements, framing a primary border of indigo with large filler palmettes and trefoils of red flower buds, connected by a meandering vine. It has overcast edges, and the warp ends appear to have been restored or repaired, with hand-finished securing stitching. Blue weft threads are evident to the verso. The rug is unlabeled.
