A 1976 bronze sculpture titled War Pony by Sid Burns (1916 – 1979). Burns, who was born in Oklahoma and resided in Arizona for much of his life, was a self-taught artist who began sculpting at the age of 50. Best known for his Western-related subjects, this work is indicative of Burn’s expressive style and meticulous attention towards detail. The Native American figure features an ornately carved feather headdress while both horses are expertly sculpted from their realistic musculature to their captured fluid movement. The piece is signed Sid Burns, titled War Pony, dated 1976 and numbered 7 of 15 to its base. The piece is presented on a wooden base with an engraved brass plaque which reads ‘Sid Burns 1976 War Pony’.
