Mid 19th Century Oil Painting on Canvas of Country Estate
Item Details
An oil painting on canvas of a country estate in the style of Samuel David Colkett (Untied Kingdom, 1806 – 1863), dated to the mid 19th century. Unsigned by the artist. Housed in a gilt and gesso wood frame with an acanthus and vine motif. Colkett was known for his Romantic landscapes, often of rural subject matter.
Condition
- frame rub visible along the edges of the canvas; craquelure to paint layers; stretcher bar mark along upper portion of canvas; overall yellowing to surface of canvas; canvas has been partially backed with wax along the back and sides; minor wear to the frame including cracks to gesso and wear to gold-tone paint.
