An oil painting on canvas titled Patio by listed American artist William Benecke (1934-2001). The painting depicts a terrace with multiple tables, chairs, and umbrellas decorated with multiple floral planters and surrounded by lush foliage. Signed by the artist to the lower right in graphite. Informational labels from W. T. Berger Co. are affixed to the verso. Presented without glass, beneath an off-white linen mat, housed in an ornate gilt frame.
William Benecke was born in 1934 in Chicago, Illinois and had his formal art training at the Art Institute of Chicago. He worked as an illustrator for several major studios in Chicago and also worked as a staff illustrator for the Chicago Tribune and the Sun Times. When he was 24, he traveled to Mexico and lived there for ten years during which time he painting and running his own gallery. He is known for his landscapes, garden scenes and portraits.
