Mid 19th Century Oil Painting on Canvas "Lady with a Book"
Item Details
An oil painting on canvas titled Lady with a Book, dated to the mid 19th century. The work depicts the full-length portrait of an adult woman in clothing indicative of the mid to late 19th-century. Signed illegibly by the artist to the lower right corner. Housed in a gilt and gesso wood frame. To the verso is a descriptive and biographical label, attributing the piece to Robert Temple.
Condition
- canvas has been relined and coated in wax on the sides; craquelure to the paint layers; minor areas of smaller-than-quarter-sized inpainting in the woman’s dress sleeves and along the lower right corner, the signature and face are clean; wear to the frame including missing areas of gesso.
