Sid Burns 1979 Bronze Sculpture "Bronc Buster Busted"

Item Details

A 1979 bronze sculpture by Sid Burns (1916 – 1979) titled ‘Bronc Buster Busted’. One of the artist’s last works, the piece depicts a dramatic clash between a wildly bucking bronco and a cowboy attempting to break him. Burns, who was born in Oklahoma, resided in Arizona for much of his life and was a self-taught artist who began sculpting at the age of 50. His passion for Western subject matter is reflected in the dynamic motion of this sculpture with special attention given to the musculature of the horse along with its highly detailed saddlery and tack. The piece is numbered 18/25, dated 1979, titled Bronc Buster Busted and signed to the lower. The work is presented on a wooden base with a brass plaque which reads ‘Sid Burns 1979, Bronc Buster Busted’.
