Large Vintage Double-Sided Wooden Printing Block

Item Details

A large hand-carved vintage double-sided wooden printing block. The block is dotted with abstracted geometric shapes. Most notably, several stars are both carved into and stand in relief from the block’s surface. Deep red ink staining from original use is visible across the piece, and pieces of cut cardboard have been attached across its surface periodically for shim or registration most probably. The block was most likely used in letterpress offsetting in poster printing, this looks to have been the red block functioning as one color layer in a series of subsequent color applications. Handwritten notes and measurements can be seen across the piece. The block is unframed and is currently not equipped to hang.
