An oil painting on canvas titled Church at Old Lyme by Canadian-American artist William Greason (1884-1945). This work features a town church with a large steeple and a classical Roman temple front surrounded by autumnal trees. An older gentleman walks along the path, dwarfed by the trees and architecture around him. The painting is signed to the lower right. It is presented in an Arts & Crafts style gilt and gesso frame. The artist’s name is handwritten to the verso and a descriptive label from W.T. Burger Company is present to the verso.
Condition
- hole in canvas near top edge, reinforced with a patch to the verso; some wear in frame includes scratches, stains, and discoloration throughout.
