Jack Meanwell 1995 Original Abstract Oil Painting on Canvas
Item Details
An original 1995 oil painting on canvas by well-listed Abstract Expressionist painter Jack Meanwell (Cincinnati, 1919 – 2005). The painting depict a highly-textured abstract composition painted in thick strokes of black, gray, white, and pale pink paint. Short, thin lines cut across the composition, creating a shattered texture. The painting is signed and dated in graphite to the lower right. It is presented in a thin silver tone metal frame with a hanging wire attached to the verso. Meanwell holds a special place among collected Cincinnati painters and is often associated with fellow Cincinnati painter Paul Chidlaw. The pair had their works exhibited together in 2010 at the Mary Ran Gallery, in an exhibit called “Paul Chidlaw and Jack Meanwell-Battle of the Abstract Expressionists.”
