Marc Chagall 1969 Lithographic Cover for "Derrière le Miroir"
Item Details
An original hand-pulled limited edition lithographic cover for a 1969 issue of the famed French art publication Derrière le Miroir, designed by very well-listed Russian-French Expressionist Marc Chaggal (1887 – 1985). Derrière le Miroir (DLM) was a fine art publication that was founded in 1946 and continuously published by Galerie Maeght until 1982. For each issue, Galerie Maeght would commission an artist featured in their gallery to design and create the limited edition publication. The magazines were not numbered, but a limited edition of 1200 copies of this publication were ever printed. This is the cover of issue n°182 of the publication. It depicts a busy illustration of figures in a simple house, set against textured foliage. The publication’s title is printed to the upper left, and Chagall’s signature is printed in-plate in red to the lower right. The cover is matted in white and presented behind glass in a wooden frame with black finish and a hanging wire.
