Polish Carved Wooden Folk Art

Item Details

A piece of Polish carved wooden folk art. This rectangular work features subjects carved in mid-relief, which is meant to resemble a shadowbox of sorts containing an owl figurine, globe, floral wreath and portrait of a child. The border is carved with interlocking leaves, with an etched phrase in a foreign language to the lower edge nestled near a syringe. To the verso are affixed brackets for hanging, and etched information denoting that it was created in Poland. The surface is stained, except for the child’s portrait.

Condition

- debris attached to the side (nail pressed into the wood); minor scratches throughout; could benefit from cleaning.
