Hand-Knotted Sino-Persian Accent Rug
Item Details
A hand-knotted Sino-Persian area rug. This wool rug, likely made in China, is rendered in a palette of cherry, camel, celadon, azure, and deep midnight blue. It begins with an elongated central medallion in cherry over a camel-colored lozenge. At the center of the medallion is a cherry-colored cartouche containing images of jardinieres and flowers as well as a quartet of pink and ivory roses at the center; pendants enclose three carnations. The lozenge rests on a celadon-colored field populated with meandering flowers. Framing the field are three broken borders including a primary border featuring scrolling foliage in azure over ivory, the pattern punctuated on each side by a floral cartouche and in each corner by a floral shield. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at each end with short kilim skirts and long, double-knotted cotton warp fringe. It is unlabeled.
