Hand-Knotted Tekke Bokhara Area Rug
Item Details
A Tekke Bokhara area rug. This Pakistani-made wool rug is hand-knotted in a subtly abrashed palette of madder red, terracotta, black, and ivory. It begins with a lattice pattern of Tekke major guls interspersed with Chemche minor guls over a red field. Unlike many classic Bokhara designs, this one includes two pairs of horizontal diamond lattice panels, one pair above and below the field, and one above and below the main block of borders. The rug includes sixteen box borders, including a major border featuring boxed octagons enclosing smaller octagons, each containing four fused ram’s horn motifs and hooks. Minor borders include two grounded in terracotta, featuring mirrored ram’s horn motifs. The outer guard border is red. Selvedges are overcast. The top and bottom finish with short kilim skirts and long ivory wool warp fringe. The rug is labeled on the reverse.
