An antique oil painting on canvas of a Romantic landscape by well-listed artist James Burrell Smith (United Kingdom, 1824 – 1897). The piece depicts a solitary fisherman with a grandiose mountain to the background. Singed by the artist to the lower center on the face of a rock. Housed in a gilt and gesso wood frame. To the verso is a descriptive label and biographical information on the artist. Smith is known for his landscapes, particularly with Romantic and nocturnal treatments of light.

- fair; signature is faded; craquelure; canvas has been relined; numerous areas of missing gesso on the frame; areas of inpainting to the canvas, the signature is clean.
