Mid-19th Century "Prose Works of Sir Walter Scott"

A pair of antique hardcover volumes from the series The Miscellaneous Prose Works of Sir Walter Scott. Scott was a popular 19th century writer whose historical fiction, such as Ivanhoe, helped revive interest in the Middle Ages, although he also wrote about other periods and subjects. These are volumes 13 and 24 in a 28 volume series. They are bound in marbled hardcovers with partial red leather veneers and gilt lettering and accents, and also have marbled page edges. Published by Robert Cadell of Edinburgh and dated 1849 and 1851 respectively.

Condition

- hinges are cracked but attached; moderate cover wear and paper discoloration consistent with age.
