1889 Guy de Maupassant "The Two Brothers" Illustrated

An 1889 antique hardcover English language edition of Guy de Maupassant’s novel The Two Brothers, also known as Pierre et Jean. This is the first English language edition, published only a year after the French first edition came out in 1888. It is illustrated with photogravures protected by tissue paper leaves, and bound in a marbled hardcover with a leather veneered spine. Published by the J.B. Lippincott Company of Philadelphia. Translated by Albert Smith and with illustrations by E. Duez and A. Lynch.

Condition

- light cover wear but overall quite good considering age, interior is clean and hinges and bindings are solid. At least one of the illustrations has been cut out, presumably for individual framing, but the great majority remain.
