An oversized hardcover volume of Frank Leslie’s Illustrated Historical Register of the United States Centennial Exposition, 1876. Illustrated with ‘nearly eight hundred’ engravings by various artists, it documents the international exhibition held to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, held in Pennsylvania from May 10 – November 10, 1876, an event that attracted almost 10 million visitors to the city. The work provides a unique glimpse of 19th century American life, culture, and industry, as the nation exhibited many inventions of the Industrial Revolution as well as historical and cultural displays. Published 1877 by Frank Leslie’s Publishing House, publishers of Frank Leslie’s Illustrated Newspaper. Bound in a green cloth hardcover with ornate gilt lettering and designs.
Condition
- to poor; cover is detached and held together by clear packing tape to the spine. Glued bindings are failing, pages have separated into two main chunks or sections with a few detached pages.
