Large Hand-Knotted Persian Kerman Area Rug
Item Details
A Persian Kerman area rug. This curvilinear wool rug is finely hand-knotted in a palette of pale cerulean, coral, and cream, with prominent fuchsia and royal blue highlights. It features a classic Kerman design beginning with a floral pendant medallion grounded in cream and surrounded by sprays of small flowers. The medallion rests on a partly open cerulean-colored field. The outer region of the field is filled with densely patterned small flowers and palmettes, including morning glories, carnations, periwnkles, and hyacinth blooms. Compound floral borders are exuberantly broken by sprays of flowers in vase shapes. Selvedges are overcast. Ends finish with ivory wool warp fringe. The rug has a cleaner’s tag attached but is otherwise unmarked.
