Hand-Knotted Karabagh Area Rug
Item Details
A hand-knotted Karabagh area rug. This wool rug features three octagonal medallions over an open red field. The medallions each contain a rectangular panel overlaying a large six-lobed motif in very deep blue over cream; the panels each enclose a geometric lattice. Framing the field are four borders including two thin barber pole stripes and a repeating pattern of diagonally oriented boxes enclosing stars over different background colors. The universal palette is red, deep midnight blue, camel, and gray, with an area at the top of the rug where cobalt is used. Selvedges are double overcast, the rug finishing at one end with unbound ivory wool warp fringe, which may include goat hair, and at the other with short, bound and braided fringe. The rug is unlabeled.
