Hand-Knotted Kazak Wool Area Rug
Item Details
A Kazak area rug. This Caucasian tribal wool rug is hand-knotted in an abrashed palette of madder red, ivory, cerulean, and sapphire. It begins with two large, octagonal hooked medallions with hooks and ram’s horns, the medallions enclosing a smaller medallion seeded with a shield at the center of each. The medallions rest on a red field bisected by a row of geometric rosettes. Each segment features a small shield in each corner. The field is framed by five borders, including a quatrefoil arrow primary border over ivory. It has been lightly carved along the design lines. Selvedges are double overcast, top and bottom finishing with red kilim skirts and braided wool warp fringe. It is unlabeled.
