Antique Hand-Knotted Persian Area Rug
Item Details
An antique Persian area rug. This wool rug, possibly from Bijar in northwestern Iran, is hand-knotted in an abrashed and now-faded palette of mocha, pale rose, azure, and ochre. It features an allover mid-scale herati pattern over a mocha-colored field. Framing the field are four borders over pale rose, including a primary border featuring a repeating pattern of floral sprays. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at either end with very short natural wool warp fringe, which has been shorn and stitched in repair. It is unlabeled.
