Large Chinese Ceramic Pidan Egg Pot

A Chinese egg pot used for making Pidan (皮蛋), or “Century Eggs.” This urn features a brown glazed, stoneware urn base with a raised and etched motif of dragons. This pot was used to make pidan, which are preserved eggs that resulting in a dark green yolk surrounded by a dark brown, translucent jelly. The preservation process uses clay, ash, salt, rice hulls, and quicklime and can take several weeks or months. The inside of the pot is teal. Also included is a black metal, round, rolling plant stand. No maker’s marks.
