Carved Wood Ceremonial Vessel

Item Details

A carved wood ethnographic ceremonial vessel. The vessel features a central bowl with a hinged lid. It is supported by a pair of carved monkeys and topped with a pair of carved birds. A carved figure is placed centrally on the body of the vessel. Carved designs of triangles are present throughout. The piece is similar in style to those of Yoruba Divinity Cups, but clear attribution of the piece could not be made.

Condition

- marks and wear overall; has heavier wear on the top sides of the piece; some losses and large cracks.
