Item Details

not signed

A set of four framed offset lithograph prints after details from Japanese Buddhist murals and hanging scrolls. The first reproduces a detail from the large Heian period (794-1185) work Shaka Rising from the Gold Coffin by an anonymous Japanese artist now held in the Kyoto National Museum. The historical Buddha is portrayed surrounded by thousands rays of light which hold Buddhas. The second is after a detail from the Japanese late-Heian period mural Raigo of Amida and His Host at Mt. Koya. The third is after a detail from the hanging scroll painting Fugen Enmei: The Bodhisattva of Universal Virtue Who Prolongs Life held in the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. The last is after a hanging scroll portrait of the Buddhist priest Jion Daishi (Kuiji) located at the Yakushiji in Nara, Japan. Each of the prints is displayed behind glass in a beige silk mat with burnt orange wooden frames. A sawtooth metal hanger is attached to the verso of each frame. Labels attached to the verso of each piece read ‘Gallery House Inc. Chicago.’
