A hand colored wood engraving on paper after N. Berchem. This piece depicts a caravan of people and assorted livestock fording a river, with a castle and a cluster of buildings on a cliff across the river against mountains and a cloudy sky. The work is signed in plate to the lower margin, reading ‘N. Berchem, Pinx.’, ‘Sovebac, Id’, and ‘Daudet, Sculp’. The print is presented under glass and colored, layered mats with a canvas surface to the top mat, in a wood frame with hanging wire to the verso and a gold tone edge.
Condition
- glass could be cleaned more thoroughly; minor wear to frame finish.
