Hand-Knotted Sino-Persian Area Rug
Item Details
A hand-knotted Sino-Persian area rug. This wool rug, likely made in China, is rendered in a palette of dark olive, taupe, cream, and coral. Beginning with a small star at the center, it features a modified herati pattern of palmettes, vines, leaves, and flowers over an olive-colored field. Framing the field are four borders, including a primary turtle pattern over taupe. The primary border is flanked by meandering leaf-and-flower minor borders over taupe, and an outer guard border in olive. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at either end with short, embroidered kilim skirts and long ivory cotton warp fringe. It is unlabeled.
